NDL Adult Hockey

NDL Adult Hockey is a team-based recreational league designed for beginner to early-intermediate adult players who want to continue developing their skills in a fun, safe, and supportive environment.

Seasons typically run 9–16 weeks, with games played weekly (with occasional breaks for holidays). There are no practices.

NDL is a non-checking league, although some competitive body contact may occur as part of normal game play. To maintain competitive balance and ensure meaningful participation for developing players, NDL is intended for beginner and early-intermediate players. More experienced or advanced players may be better suited for Piney Orchard Ice Arena’s Adult League program.

Q: If I am a new player how do I get on a team?

A: New players will be assigned to a team by the league administrators. Placement will be determined by factors like existing team size and overall team skill set.

Q: What are the team sizes?

A: Teams are limited to a max roster size of 15 skates plus one goaltender. Optimum team size is 10 skaters as this allows for more ice time.

Q: Are there opportunities to sub on other teams?

A: Yes. Players who are interested in subbing should let a league administrator or their team captain know. Their contact information will be added to the rolling sub list.

When a team needs one or more subs, the team captain will contact the sub coordinators. Players will be offered opportunities in order, beginning with the first available name on the list.

• If a player accepts a sub opportunity, they will be assigned to the team for that game and moved to the bottom of the list.
• After the player has been contacted and accepted the assignment, they should register on this site under the heading NDL Single-Game Sub. The sub fee is $40.
• If a player is not available, they will retain their place on the list for the next opportunity.

Q: What is the format for games?

A: Games are played using the following format:

• Warm-up: 3 minutes
• Periods: Three 12-minute periods with a stop clock
• Intermissions: 1 minute
• Overtime: None. Games that are tied at the end of regulation will end in a tie.

If a scorekeeper cannot be provided, the game will instead be played as three 17-minute periods using a running clock.
